The Limerick Leader decided to use iAnnounce to allow readers shocked at the brutal murder of Shane Geoghegan, a popular local rugby player, to pay tribute to his memory and offer their commiserations to his family. An incredible 14,000 candles were lit by Limerick people around the world on the special page we created and in all there were 35,000 visitors. It was of the utmost importance to us that the special page was entirely respectful and we very much appreciated the efforts of the iAnnounce team in moderating the very many messages submitted. It was an emotional time and some of the messages submitted were not appropriate, but thanks to the iAnnounce team nothing appeared which was not in keeping with paying tribute to Shane's memory. About Us
iAnnounce is an internet application that adds value to announcement advertising in newspapers. By generating a personalised, interactive web page for every advertiser, iAnnounce adds value to the notice, enabling newspapers to increase their rates, generate more traffic from what is a hugely popular service and grow yields from visitors.
History
iAnnounce is the brain child of Alex Stitt. After 10 years working for national newspaper & magazine publishers, Alex recognised a widespread need for digital innovations that made money. Armed with the knowledge that the Announcements page is the Telegraph’s most profitable page, he used the tools from the emerging social networking sites like MySpace, Friends Reunited and Bebo and applied them to the BMD franchise. He knew that newspapers required solutions that were:
- Quick & Easy to apply
- Profitable
- Low Risk
- Low Cost
- On Strategy
iAnnounce was devised to hit all these buttons. It has now been widely adopted throughout the industry, with iAnnounce uploading 70,000 notices a month onto the system.
